Hand Surgery

Carpal tunnel surgery

In the early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome, you may wake up at night with tingling fingers, and experience weakness of your hand in the morning. When carpal tunnel syndrome progresses, the tingling can worsen to permanent numbness, and in some cases paralysed muscles in your thumb.

Dupuytren's Contracture

Dupuyten’s contracture runs in families, and while it isn’t yet curable, you can usually manage it well long-term.

De Quervain's tenosynovitis

In de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, also called de Quervain’s tendonitis, specific tendons which move the thumb become painfully swollen.

Dr Patrick Lyall has performed hand and reconstructive surgery for two decades. He started the Plastic Surgery Department at Dunedin Public Hospital.

Patrick is also a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. Their ongoing nationwide patient survey has been completed by over 6,000 patients since 2014. The survey results speak volumes about the experiences of Patrick's patients:
  • "Very thorough surgeon; he and his staff are very helpful and caring."
  • "Timely, efficient. Neat scars and good post op management, reassuring and confident."
  • "It was an awesome, pain free experience that I wish I got done ages ago. Patrick Lyall made me feel comfortable and had plenty of laughs throughout the op, nurse was awesome as well."
